Marvin Jolliffe aka coach Marv has been at UPenn since September 2021.He has been coaching for 22years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program.
Marvin grew up in South Africa and played on a tennis scholarship in South Carolina at Erskine college.

I cannot remember a time in my life when I was not swinging a tennis racket. A native Philadelphian, I played tennis at Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center from elementary school through high school. I played on the men's tennis team at Bethune Cookman College, now University.

I love playing tennis but what brings me the most joy is coaching tennis. Experiencing a child grow from not being able to hold a tennis racket properly to an advanced competitive player is extremely rewarding. I have coached college tennis, senior adults as well as young children. Tennis, a life-long sport, builds confidence, enhances strategic thinking, good sportsmanship and it is my hope to share my love for the game with children and adults alike.

After watching Bjorn Borg play a match on television at age 11, Doug began a tennis adventure from which he has yet to return. His motto is “Swing Freely and have FUN”. Teaching is a passion for Doug and he enjoys working with players of all ages and ability levels.

- Lewis played collegiate tennis at Ferris State University (ranked #4 in the nation during his tenure).

- Member of the first graduating class of Professional Tennis Management, at the time the only school in the world offering such a program.

- During the Summer months Doug is Director of Tennis at The Quogue Field Club in the Hamptons area of NY.

- Prior to joining the Penn staff in 2022, Doug was Tennis Director at the Healthplex Sports Club from 1996-2020.

- Lewis has worked with over 50 nationally ranked juniors, two National Junior Champions, many college players including a former Harvard #1 and Ivy league player of the year.

- USPTA Middle States Tennis Professional of the year in 1999.

- Published in numerous tennis publications including Tennis Magazine, Advantage magazine, PhiladelphiaI Inquired, Lansing State Journal, The Hampton Independent and Dan’s Papers.

- A musician and songwriter releasing 6 albums of original music.

- Doug resides in Northern Liberties in Philadelphia with his wife Lauren Lyons a photographer.

Tony is a USPTR certified professional tennis instructor for over 20 years. He received USTA training in high performance tennis, sports science, and sports psychology. Tony has coached multiple Jr. Team Tennis Champions. He is the former director of The After School Tennis Program sponsored by The Arthur Ashe Tennis and education center. 

Tyrone has worked extensively with the men's and women's varsity teams, and as a teaching professional for 32 years at Penn. As an undergraduate student at Penn, Tyrone was part of a men's varsity team that finished as high as second in the Ivy League behind Harvard then ranked sixth in the country. Over the past 32 years he has worked with a variety of coaches such as Chris Hill, who recently coached current ATP tour world # 85, Chris Eubanks, Mark Riley, Penn Hall of Fame Coach, and Courtney Scott, current USTA coach and recently WTA # 6 CoCo Gauff's hitting partner, as well as a number of players who have gone on to play junior level and college tennis. He is currently the head coach of the Philadelphia School tennis team.

He is a USPTR and USPTA certified teaching professional who loves teaching the game, and sharing the joys of tennis to players of all ages.

Aaron is a former collegiate tennis player. He played Division I tennis for the University of Richmond where he competed in singles and doubles. He served as Captain during his senior year. Prior to college, Aaron was a highly ranked junior who competed at top national tournaments, including Kalamazoo, the Easter Bowl, and the National Clay Court Championships. Aaron has experience coaching players of all ages and levels. He enjoys working with both juniors and adults alike. 

As a Tennis Professional with a passion for the game and a wealth of experience, I am dedicated to helping players of all ages and skill levels reach their full potential on the court. With 6 years of coaching expertise and a background in Division 1 college tennis, I bring a unique blend of technical knowledge, strategic acumen, and a deep understanding of the sport.

My coaching journey began during my collegiate career, where I played Division 1 tennis for four years at North Carolina A&T State University and graduated with a B.S in Computer Science. This experience not only honed my skills as a player but also instilled in me a strong work ethic, discipline, and a commitment to excellence. Following my graduation, I transitioned seamlessly into coaching, driven by my desire to share my love for tennis and help others develop their abilities.

During my coaching tenure, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of players, from young beginners to advanced competitive.

Ginger Valentine played collegiate tennis for Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter Minnesota. She received 3- time All- American honors and majored in Psychology with a minor in Coaching. While attending college she coached at her high school and provided tennis lessons at Swanson Tennis Center. After graduating college she worked at Junior Tennis Championship Center in College Park, MD through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. After her year of service she was hired on full time as a Staff Professional mainly working with the community outreach program to provide education and tennis instruction to schools/ community centers in Washington, DC and Maryland.
